IIT-CNR is developing an open source technology for the creation and consultation of interactive maps on the Web and mobile devices. Rather than large geographic scales, the software focuses on very rich and complex small contexts, such as buildings, campuses, hospitals, railway stations or museums.
Starting from the experimentation in progress at the IIT headquarters, within the Research Area of the CNR of Pisa, the activity is expanding to include new application contexts, such as botanical gardens, parks, cemeteries, archaeological sites, up to investigating their use to create diagrams of more abstract structures such as electronic circuits, systems, diagrams of body systems, biological sections.
Currently the work team is concentrated in the creation of new software libraries that support the creation of maps in the various contexts mentioned above, making extensive use of Web standards such as SVG, HTML and CSS, programming languages for the browser Javascript and Typescript, reactive programming .
